What If?

Dirty and hungry, wandering day after day;
Drifting in the wilderness, have we lost our way?
Wishing we could go back to the way things used to be.
So caught up in what we don’t have, that we fail to see-

All the signs and wonders and blessings
Raining like manna from above;
Can we really be too blind to see
How He showers us with love?

What if God never had compassion,
But gave us what we earned?
What if He stopped giving second chances,
Because at first we didn’t learn?
What if His mercy never met us
Wandering in our dessert place?
What if He gave us what we deserved
Instead of giving grace?

The grumbling and complaining spirals out of control.
We feel the struggles of life are about to swallow us whole.
We demand to know why God is treating us this way,
But the hardness of our hearts is leading us astray.

All the stress and trials and heartaches
Are a constant reminder of-
How our souls would be enslaved by sin,
If not for the Father’s love.

What if God never had compassion,

What if He gave us what we deserved
Instead of giving grace?

There would be no sacrifice to save us from our sin.
No Calvary, no Lamb of God, no new heart within.
When you ask why God’s not doing more than He’s already done,
Remember that He is conforming us to the image of His Son.

Do You Hear Me? (Grown-up Version)

I woke up this morning already late,
Eating breakfast will just have to wait!
My boss is angry and so is my spouse;
I locked my keys and cell phone inside the house.
It’s a rough day already and I’m still at home.
I won’t survive if I face this alone!

Do you hear me when I pray?
Life is kinda hard today.
I know You say You love me,
But You feel so far away.
Will you hear me when I pray?
Can I trust the words You say?
I need to know there’s a purpose
For what I’m going thru today.
Do you hear me?

Tragedy and sickness fill our lives.
I know it doesn’t catch You by surprise.
The unknowns and why’s are hard for us;
But Your ways are always righteous and just.
When I don’t understand the reasons I grieve,
Strengthen my faith and help me believe–

That you hear me when I pray,
Though my life is hard today.
You said You’ll always love me,
And You’re never far away.
You will hear me when I pray,
I can trust the words You say.
You show me there’s a purpose
For what I’m going thru today.
You will hear me!
